The tiny boxer known as Little Mac may have always been punching above his weight class in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but now one of the best Smash players in the world has proclaimed the fighter to be the single worst character in the game. And considering that the full roster boasts more than 70 fighters, that’s really saying something.
On Sunday, top-ranked Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios published a new video to his YouTube channel simply titled “The Worst Character In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” and spoiler alert, it’s Little Mac.
ZeRo says he actually likes playing Little Mac but adds, “I think that Little Mac has the most amount of weaknesses, and I think the engine of Smash Ultimate affects Little Mac more than any other characters.”
How so?
In Smash Bros. Wii U (or Smash 4 as most fans call it), Little Mac had a lot of mobility while on the ground, specifically with him being able to pivot. But now virtually every character can do that, essentially nerfing his best ability. Little Mac is the epitome of the “glass cannon” that’s as glass as it gets, meaning he can deal a lot of damage in the right circumstances, but he’s got terrible defense.

For high-level players, One major nerf to Little Mac is his inability to combo some of his moves in the same way he could in the last game. One of his other huge flaws is his lack of aerial moves — he’s basically useless off the ground. That doesn’t even mention his lack of recovery moves, an essential in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Even his grab takes a long time, leaving him vulnerable to attack. These are just some of the many Little Mac flaws that ZeRo highlights.
Of course, All of this comes as no surprise considering how many tier lists out there put Little Mac in exclusively the lowest tiers. Joseph “Seagull Joe” Raucher ranked Little Mac as “not viable” in late December. Other tier lists from Leonardo “MKLeo” Lopez Perez, Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby, and Julian “Jtails” Martinez released earlier this January also put Little Mac near the rock bottom of the 74 fighters available.
Sorry, Little Mac fans. Maybe Nintendo will finally get it right in the next version of Super Smash Bros.
